When Sexuality Enters the Session: Building confidence and competence in sex-positive client conversations
First things first: If you’ve found yourself on this page, you’re the kind of therapist who wants to support their clients holistically. Whether you see individuals, couples, polycules, or families, you excel at building a therapeutic context where folks can practice conflict in healthy ways, explore deep healing work, and grow authentically and sustainably.
The only tricky thing? That one semester in grad school on sex, gender, + sexuality didn't exactly leave you confident in navigating sex-focused conversations when they enter the room. To be fair, one course on sex, gender, + sexuality is not nearly enough to cover the expansive ways these things show up in your clients' experiences. Plus, most of us didn't get stellar sex education ourselves! You don't want to be a sex therapist, per se, but you do want to feel confident in the knowledge, resources, and skills required to engage in these conversations with clients, as they arise.
After this 4 hour in-person training, you will:
Understand evidence-based + shame-free sex education essentials to build your knowledge base (Turns out, it's more than reproduction + STIs!)
Identify your personal sexual value system, so that you can notice and bracket it in real time during sessions, making more space for clients to identify their own.
Recognize and clarify common sex + sexual health myths that add to the culture of sexual shame that’s impacting your clients.
Build + practice the necessary skills to integrate sex-positive approaches to conversations with clients. You’ll leave this training able to answer sexuality questions with confidence, plus you’ll have a whole world of vetted resources to turn to as needs arise!
Learn from a panel of your peers who specialize in specific sexuality-related client experiences
Where: Cape Fear Community College
room will be shared via email upon registration
When: July 31st, 2025 from 9am-1pm
4 CE hours from NASW-NC, pending approval
Still unsure? Here’s what I want you to know before you buy:
Regardless of your specialty, sexuality + intimacy concerns are impacting your clients. Whether they are families unsure about how to have “the talk” with their teens, folks learning to relate to sex outside of substance use, or couples whose differences in desire feel too looming to even name in session— this training will equip you with essential knowledge + approaches that will help you be the calm + confident anchor in the room.
